“For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against the evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world…Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armour so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil…” – Ephesians 6:12-13 (NLT)
The fight against the evil one cannot be won with our hands, but only with our minds and mouths.
Scripture says, “…put on every piece of God’s armour…” This means, among other things, taking control of your thoughts. It means being fully equipped with spiritual alertness. This will give you control over your life since the enemy can be strategic and subtle.
Winning the battle in your thought life requires:
- Meditating daily on God’s Word and acting on It.
- Studying God’s Word diligently to show yourself approved.
- Becoming an earnest and lifelong student of the art of spiritual warfare.
In many New Testament books, we are told that our battles do not take place in the temporal realm but in the spiritual realm. We are told to “…not be afraid, only believe.” (Mark 5:36, NKJV), “…gird up the loins of your mind…” (1st Peter 1:13), ‘renew your mind’ (Romans 12:2), and “we have the mind of Christ” (1st Corinthians 2:16).
We are taught in Romans that those who live according to the flesh set their minds on things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on things of the Spirit. (Romans 8:6). We are also instructed to take every thought captive (2nd Corinthians 10:5).
Yes, every battle is won or lost in the arena of the mind. If you’re really listening, you’ll quickly realise that you must become skilled in your thoughts and speech. This gives you control and allows you to act according to God’s master plan for your life.
Strive to win every battle in your thought life! Put on your armour and take control!
